My Favorite Carbohydrate/Glucose Hacks...

So, tonight we picked up pizza from BOOM, a newish pizza joint at Van Aken. I always go with mushroom if I can as my family will not touch mushrooms and I LOVE them.

Jordan and I were the only humans home for dinner so we ordered half pep half mushroom and it was delish. I do not eat pizza often but when I do there are a few things I make a habit of including as to not overindulge and be sorry later.

  1. I always make a big salad to go with it

  2. I include a protein (20-30g) either in my salad or on the side

What does this do other than add a few hundred calories?

Well, actually it will end up saving me on calories and including fiber and protein also has a few other benefits.

I start with the salad undressed or very lightly dressed (just because I’m not a fan of dressing and there is enough fat and oils in the pizza).

Consuming the fiber from the salad starts to satisfy my hunger as does the protein so I am less likely to over indulge when I get to the pizza.

In addition, consuming the protein and fiber first helps the body with a more favorable response to the glucose (carbohydrates) in the pizza. It’s a WIN WIN!
